The Root with Sarah G: Restoring Cellular Function for Optimal Health

Welcome back to The Root with Sarah G, the NP. I'm Casey, and today we're diving deeper into the approach of Down To Earth Wellness Center and why restoring cellular function for optimal health is their priority. In this thought-provoking discussion, Sarah Godsave, the NP at Down To Earth, shares her insights on the importance of addressing cellular health, the impact of toxins and genetics, and practical steps individuals can take to support their own well-being.

Restoring Function and Physiology

Sarah said she doesn't focus on treating specific conditions or illnesses. Instead, her approach is centered around restoring function and physiology to the body. She emphasizes the importance of looking at the current status of cellular function and addressing any imbalances or dysfunctions that may be present.

"I'm not necessarily going to treat their Lyme or their Celiac. But what we're going to do is look at what's happening, what's the current status of the function in your body. Because when we restore that back to normal, then things tend to fall into place and work correctly," Sarah said.

Sarah acknowledges that this process is not always simple and that there may be underlying factors contributing to the dysfunction. She shares her own experience with chronic Lyme disease, highlighting how certain triggers, such as stress or a weakened immune system, can reveal underlying conditions that may have gone unnoticed for years.

The Role of Genetics and Toxins

Sarah delves into the role of genetics and environmental toxins in cellular health. She explains that there are various genetic variants that can impact how our cells function, even in milder forms that may go unnoticed. One example she gives is "maple syrup disease.”

"There are lots and lots of variants that can occur that are milder forms of a lot of those things that people have no idea. [For example, with] maple syrup disease, you literally will smell like maple syrup," Sarah said. This genetic condition leads to individuals having difficulty breaking down proteins, even in milder forms.

In addition to genetics, Sarah highlights the impact of environmental toxins on cellular health. She emphasizes the importance of being proactive in reducing exposure to toxins in the air and water. Sarah recommends using carbon filters for water and air filtration, as well as being mindful of the products we use and the environments we inhabit.

The Detoxification Process

When it comes to detoxification, Sarah emphasizes the importance of understanding individual needs and being cautious in the process. She explains that detoxification can be complex and should be approached with care, as improper detoxification can lead to further health issues. Sarah advises individuals to ensure they have regular bowel movements before embarking on any detoxification protocols. She said pulling out toxins without a person being able to get them out of their body could be a serious problem, like a car with a broken exhaust system.

Sarah also discusses the use of IV therapy and other treatments to support the detoxification process. She highlights the importance of personalized approaches based on individual needs and responses.

The Impact of Cellular Health

Sarah explains that cellular health is crucial for overall well-being, as it affects various aspects of our health, including energy levels, weight management, and immune function. She emphasizes the role of cell membranes in maintaining cellular health and the importance of cholesterol in supporting strong cell membranes.

"Without cholesterol, it would be like trying to hold up a circus tent without the poles. So when we focus so much on lowering cholesterol,  we forget about the poor little cell membranes," Sarah said.

Sarah also discusses the impact of iron on cellular health, highlighting its role in cell membrane function and mitochondrial function. She notes that iron imbalances can disrupt cellular health and lead to various health issues.

Taking Action for Cellular Health

To support cellular health, Sarah recommends practical steps individuals can take. She advises paying attention to clean air and water, using filters to reduce exposure to toxins. Sarah also encourages individuals to consider genetic testing to gain insights into their unique genetic makeup and potential areas of concern.

Sarah also emphasizes the importance of listening to your body and being mindful of how you feel when making changes or embarking on detoxification protocols. She encourages individuals to seek professional guidance when needed and to prioritize self-care and stress management.

Conclusion and Future Outlook

In conclusion, Sarah Godsave's insights shed light on the significance of cellular health and its impact on overall well-being. By addressing cellular function and restoring balance, individuals can optimize their energy levels, weight management, and immune function. The understanding of genetics and environmental toxins allows for personalized approaches to support cellular health. Taking proactive steps, such as using filters and being mindful of clean air and water, can contribute to long-term well-being. As research continues to uncover new insights, the field of cellular health holds promise for improving health outcomes and empowering individuals to take control of their own well-being.
