Bioidentical Hormones

Hormones are critical for the balance of the body’s natural functions such as sleep, urinary health, memory, maintaining a healthy weight, sexual function, and mental health. Without proper balance, bones and tissues and body functions begin to break down.* BHRT can be used to restore normal levels of hormones when they are out of balance.

about bhrt

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) can restore normal hormone levels when they are out of balance. Hormones play a crucial role in regulating various bodily functions, including sleep, urinary health, memory, weight maintenance, sexual function, and mental health. When hormone levels are imbalanced, it can lead to the deterioration of bones, tissues, and overall bodily functions. Unlike standard hormone therapies that use synthetically produced hormones, BHRT uses bioidentical hormones that are structurally identical to the body’s natural hormones. This similarity ensures a more natural and effective treatment, helping you regain balance and improve your overall health and well-being.

BHRT is specifically designed for postmenopausal women and men over 40. If you do not meet this criteria, our Total Wellness Care program can help you identify and address the root causes of your health issues. BHRT treatments may include hormone pellets or creams. Pellets are inserted during a visit to our center, while creams are prescribed for use at home. Based on the results of your lab work and your individual health goals, your provider may recommend additional therapies to complement your BHRT. This personalized approach ensures that you receive comprehensive care tailored to your specific needs, helping you achieve optimal health and hormone balance.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) and how does it work?

toggle icon

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) involves the use of hormones that are chemically identical to those the human body naturally produces. BHRT is used to treat hormonal imbalances in both men and women, commonly related to aging, menopause, and andropause. The therapy works by restoring hormone levels to their optimal ranges, thereby alleviating symptoms associated with hormonal deficiencies such as fatigue, mood swings, hot flashes, and decreased libido. BHRT can be administered through various forms including creams, gels, patches, injections, and pellets.

What are the potential benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

toggle icon

The potential benefits of BHRT include improved energy levels, enhanced mood and mental clarity, better sleep quality, increased libido, relief from menopausal symptoms (e.g., hot flashes, night sweats), improved muscle mass and strength, better skin elasticity, and reduced risk of osteoporosis. Additionally, many clients report an overall improvement in their quality of life and sense of well-being.

Who is a good candidate for Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

toggle icon

Good candidates for BHRT are individuals experiencing symptoms of hormonal imbalance, such as those associated with menopause in women (hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness) and andropause in men (fatigue, reduced libido, loss of muscle mass). It can also be beneficial for those with adrenal fatigue, thyroid disorders, or chronic stress. A thorough consultation, including medical history, symptoms assessment, and hormone level testing, is necessary to determine if BHRT is suitable for you.

How is the dosage and type of hormones determined in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

toggle icon

The dosage and type of hormones used in BHRT are determined through comprehensive testing and consultation. This typically involves blood tests, saliva tests, or urine tests to measure current hormone levels. Based on the results and an assessment of symptoms and medical history, a healthcare provider will tailor a treatment plan that includes specific hormones (such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA) and the appropriate dosages. The goal is to achieve a balance that mimics the body’s natural hormone production as closely as possible.

Are there any risks or side effects associated with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

toggle icon

While BHRT is generally considered safe and well-tolerated, there are potential risks and side effects, as with any medical treatment. Common side effects may include headaches, bloating, weight gain, mood swings, and changes in appetite. More serious risks can include an increased risk of blood clots, stroke, gallbladder disease, and certain types of cancer, although these risks are often lower with bioidentical hormones compared to synthetic hormones. It’s crucial to have ongoing monitoring and regular check-ups with your provider to adjust the therapy as needed and to mitigate potential risks. A member of the medical team will discuss these risks in detail and help you weigh the benefits and potential drawbacks based on your individual health profile.
